HACHIKO
After reading this week’s reading, I found a few interesting things. I believe that although not many people understood or accepted John Cage’s and his new idea, it brought change to the art world. Change is both a need and inevitable and I believe that John Cage reinforced this with his art. It helped people see things in a different perspective despite not wanting to. Embracing randomness and the unexpected is a crucial part about art and it was really due to John Cage that showed us to truly delve into this, even though it took a while. This reading also talks about paying attention to noises we hear. John Cage used various objects that we humans use from a day to day basis which is interesting because we always hear these noises but never truly pay attention to them. One could interpret that John Cage also teaches us to live in the moment and actually hear noises or sounds throughout the day. This furthers his message that everything we do is indeed music. It is also truly inspiring to see that despite the backlash and criticism that John Cage received, he continued on this journey to broaden people’s minds. Most people would have let the negative comments get to them however John Cage endured it so that change could enter the art world but also the minds of those who view art. Overall, I found John Cage’s story quite fascinating and it is amazing how he impacted our world and continues to do so to this day whether it is indirectly or not.
