After completing the reading, I found it quite intriguing and gave credit to the author for intensely researching the history and evolution of digital art. I grew up with the internet already existing meaning digital art was pretty much established during that time so for me it is fascinating to imagine a world where the beginning ideas of digital art were coming to life. I love how digital art takes many forms of purpose. For example, the reading mentions that it could be used for political reasons, to be fun and interactive, to challenge an audience’s point of view, to create algorithms, and so much more. With mentioning this, learning about the different key movements and how these movements created these different purposes for digital art. Some of these key movements being Net Art, Hacktivism, Gernative art and more. One of the artists mentioned that I enjoyed learning about was Olia Lialina and her famous piece “My Boyfriend from the War” and how she created this interactive narrative, truly astonishing. Overall I think digital art is amazing and would like people to take it more seriously. The reading mentioned conflicts about this however at the end of the day art is art. I am curious to see if this will change in the future. With new technology, digital art will indeed evolve and I wonder how. However, this may make it difficult to preserve older pieces of digital art, so I also wonder how one would preserve it if technology keeps evolving each year and the technology used for digital art today will most likely no longer exist in the future.
